Richard Ashcroft - Break The Night With Colour review

Taken from Ashcroft's forthcoming third solo LP, Keys To The World, Break The Night With Colour sees the former Verve singer on disappointingly ponderous form. He's been responsible for some extremely memorable songs, but here Ashcroft is more plodding than even Oasis at their very stodgiest, striving for anthemic Robbie Williams territory but never quite managing to take flight. And with lyrics like "Nothing's going right today / 'Cos nothing ever does", you're left wondering whether the man's inspiration has dried up completely. Fans had better cross their fingers that this isn't the highlight of his new album.
