Virgin Media Broadband delivers the fastest possible broadband connection speed at the time you are connected, “up to” the maximum for your broadband package.
Just to let you know, there are some things that can affect your speed:
- Number of people online at the same time – when lots of people are online at the same time, you might find that your Internet connection isn’t quite as fast as usual. We’ve found that our peak times are 4pm to midnight on weekdays, and 10am to midnight at weekends.
- Making sure that the service is fair for everyone – We regulate the Internet speed of a small number of customers who download excessive amounts of data. This is so those few users aren’t slowing down the network for other customers, so it keeps everything fair. See Traffic Management FAQs for details.
- Speed of the site you’re visiting – if the server on the site you’re visiting is slower than Virgin Media’s server, you might find you can’t open those pages as quickly. A good way to explain this is to think of the Internet as a chain, or a series of links between your computer and the website that you want to access. The speed at which you can access that website depends on the speed of every link within that chain, and your connection can only ever be as fast as the slowest link in the chain.
- Setup of your computer – check that your computer is ready for broadband by clicking on Minimum system requirements.
