The Rendlesham Incident
We tend to think of Britain as an essentially safe, but pretty dull place when it comes to paranormal activity and strange sightings. However, this overlooks the strange goings-on reported in the - until now - heavily guarded Ministry of Defence top secret files.
We unlock Britain’s very own X-Files...
In December 1980, Britain’s most famous UFO event, known as the British Roswell, took place near two military bases in Ipswich. Several servicemen spotted a conical-shaped object suspended in a yellow mist, with a pulsating red and blue circle of light above it. In the surrounding woodland, farm animals had reportedly been driven into a frenzy.
The next day, the servicemen returned to the clearing where the conical object had been, and found three small impressions in a triangular pattern, as well as burn marks and broken branches on nearby trees.
The airmen were later allegedly debriefed, threatened and ordered to sign documents claiming the UFO was a lighthouse. A 150-page MoD report concluded that radiation levels around the area were higher than normal, and that the whole thing was a “potential banana skin” for the MoD.
